Some will argue, rightfully so I might add, that a McLaren is exactly how it is supposed to be. I do agree with that, it is exactly how they wanted it to be - the experience it gives is both unique and undeniably British. There are always a few little things I like to 'adjust' on any car I own. It helps make it mine, I feel. With some cars I've gone pretty crazy in terms of additional power levels. Well past the power level that comes out of the V8 in the LT to be fair, but looking back at it now, mostly that was due to a lack of excitement in other areas of those cars.
However for my 600 I've not found it lacking in terms of power, and certainly not lacking excitement and driver engagement. The only area I found that it was little bit lacklustre in was noise (for me) and whilst i didn't want to go the full de-cat route (been there, done that, smelt the fuel) I did want a little more conversation from the engine at low speeds. The ability to drop the rear glass in the Spider was a massive selling point for me, and with the exhaust tips just inches from your ears, the sound was key for me.
To that end, I went through a couple of changes/iterations with the exhaust. Firstly, I added an Exhaust Valve Controller But ultimately that led me to...a USA Spec (or MSO) Exhaust Swapout
Then for convenience (and let's be honest, showing off) I also fitted a Remote roof and glass controller.
I also hated the huge number plates the car came with, so I picked up a set of Custom but legal plates which I swapped over to when I stuck my private registration on it.
